Focusing on building energy efficient homes with a goal of net zero

Fulton Homes VP of Operations, Dennis Webb shares his involvement in The Energy & Environmental Building Alliance (EEBA). The organization began in 1982, as a small contingency of building professionals representing the United States, Canada, and Sweden. First named, the Energy Efficient Building Association, in 2008, it was renamed to EEBA to reflect the strong partnerships and a commitment to advance common objectives and interests in sustainable building.

Webb remembers fondly the first EEBA conference he attended in San Diego in 2017. Gene Meyers, EEBA president, owner and CEO of Thrive Home Builders invited him to attend.

"Gene is a natural leader and very innovative", says Webb. "EEBA offers terrific training, in how to build a better house with energy efficiency". EEBA's mission is to advance the leading edge of building science knowledge and sustainable business practices in the residential construction community through education, sharing and collaboration.

During Webb's 25-year career at Fulton Homes, he has led the charge of using technology combined with past retail experience to help transform the company into one of the most advanced homebuilders in the country. He has also been instrumental in moving Fulton Homes towards energy efficiency. Fulton Homes was the first builder in the country to have built all of its homes to ENERGY STAR Version 3 standards.

Dennis Webb is currently the Vice President of EEBA and is looking forward to becoming president in January of 2022. Some of the top issues that will continue to be addressed involve building better, healthier, more efficient houses, focusing on moving closer to net zero and taking a positive stance on electrification to meet the climate goals of 2050.

The concept of net zero is that you use no more energy than you produce. Going zero provides homeowners with many lifestyle benefits including improved health, comfort, and security. Electrification refers to the process of replacing technologies that use fossil fuels such as coal, oil, and natural gas with technologies that use electricity as a source of energy. Webb admits that all these areas have their challenges but they are critical if EEBA is to meet their future climate goals and build better houses.
