Building Eco Friendly Habits at Home

This Earth Day, what will you do to invest in our planet?

Whether it's going green, fighting climate change, upcycling or recycling, becoming eco-friendly is top of mind for most people these days. In fact, the theme for Earth Day 2022 is, "Invest in Our Planet. What Will You Do?" Maximize Solar Resources
With Earth Day rapidly approaching, there's no better time to start building eco-friendly habits at home. One major tip for reducing carbon emissions and saving money on your electricity bill is to install solar panels on the roof of your home. Arizona residents are the lucky recipients of approximately 299 days of sunshine each year, making our state one of the best in the country for utilizing the benefits of solar panels. A residential solar panel system has the capability to provide the electricity for an entire home with roughly 80% lower carbon emissions than fossil fuels. And with Federal and Arizona solar subsidy programs making it possible to get solar installed on your home at a discounted rate, it's a green proposal worth considering.

Conserve Water
While we maximize our access to sunshine, we must also work to minimize our water usage. Living in the desert, water is a truly precious commodity that requires energy and multiple resources to process and deliver to our homes. It can be energy-intensive to heat water to wash dishes, clothes, and shower with once we have access to it. By utilizing less H20, we can help the environment and lower our carbon footprint. Water conservation can be practiced at home in a number of small ways that can add up to big results! One simple tip to conserve water is to turn off the faucet while brushing your teeth, which can save up to four gallons of water at a time. Using a timer to take short, five-minute showers instead of baths can also help you save up to 25 gallons of water per person – in a family of four, that equals 100 gallons a day! Finally, try boiling only the amount of water needed when cooking instead of overfilling large pots to cut down on unnecessary water usage. Taking small steps like these can make a large impact not only on our environment, but your pocketbook, as well!
