Homebuilder's Fence Patrol opens option for grandchildren to finally visit

One of the joys of being a grandmother is having grandchildren visit and even stay overnight. But this common, simple pleasure has not been an option for Cindy Zadel, a widowed Scottsdale grandmother of four, ages 3, 4, 9 and 11. The reason? There is not a protective pool fence around her swimming pool. She's been trying to save money for a fence, but those funds have now been spent for needed surgery.

Now, Zadel is happily preparing to babysit this summer. Zadel is the latest winner of the Fulton Homes Fence Patrol program. Zadel's pool fence will be installed Tuesday, June 3 at 6:30 a.m.

This is the 12th consecutive year that Fulton Homes has provided free pool fences for Valley residents in need. The program, conducted in partnership with KMLE 107.9 and Ironman Pool Fences, will give away one pool fence a week to families in need through August. The public will be encouraged to nominate someone they know that needs a pool fence by visiting KMLE1079.com and clicking on the Fence Patrol icon.

"This is absolutely amazing," Zadel said. "Nothing could have happen better than this. I have a big back yard, but my grandkids can't play in it. I worry about them falling into the swimming pool. Now they will be able to play and I'll have peace of mind."

Watching children around water, teaching them to swim and having an adult who knows how to preform CPR are all critical for protection against drowning and near drowning accidents. Drowning is a harsh reality in Arizona, and we want to continue doing everything we can to prevent another family tragedy."

Fence Patrol is one of several water safety-related initiatives Fulton Homes supports. The Tempe-based homebuilder also sponsors the "2 Seconds is Too Long" campaign.
