Phoenix Educator Honored as Fulton Homes 'Teacher of the Week'
Doug Dziedzic Supports Students Through Academic Challenges
Fulton Homes recognizes Doug Dziedzic as this week's 'Teacher of the Week' winner for bringing compassion into the classroom every day. Dziedic is an Algebra and Social World teacher at Villa Montesorri Middle School in Phoenix. Students say his passion for teaching and kindheartedness motivates them to reach their goals.
Dziedic was nominated by Kassidy Schmidt, a student who was empowered by Dziedic when faced with academic and personal hardships. When Schmidt was confronted with medical issues and the unexpected passing of her father, Dziedic was there for emotional and academic support. Schmidt said Dziedic's hospital visits, and enlightening stories lifted her spirits while she was in bad health. She added that it was her mentor's sensitivity and faith that kept her strong and prepared to fight. "In our wounds we find our gifts" is one of the inspirational quotes Dziedic sent her. The close relationship Dziedic formed with Schmidt and her family continues today. He helps the family still, by tutoring Kassidy in math studies.
"If I hadn't been fortunate enough to have been blessed by being a student of Doug's, I likely wouldn't believe just one teacher could help shape and support the life of a child as he has," Schmidt said. She added that she has a B+ in the class and is getting better in the subject every day.
"By incorporating passion and perseverance into education, Doug Dziedic shapes young minds," Douglas Fulton, CEO of Fulton Homes said. "His actions motivate students to excel in and out of the classroom."
Fulton Homes invites students and peers across the Valley to recognize those teachers who make a difference in other's lives with the 12th Annual Fulton Homes Teacher of the Week program, in partnership with KNIX Country Radio. The popular program, which serves to honor outstanding educators, continues throughout the school year, ending in June of 2012.
Teachers nominated will be entered for a chance to win a prize package that includes $300 in cash plus prizes from Fulton Homes and the Dairy Council of Arizona. The winning teacher will be surprised and presented the award by KNIX radio personality, Carolyn Coffey. At the end of the school year, in June of 2012, the 34 winning teachers will be honored at a special luncheon, where one outstanding teacher will be chosen as the Fulton Homes "Teacher of the Year."
